Angel Manuel Santiago, 59, of Lorain, Ohio, died Monday, November 23, 2009, at Community Health Partners Regional Medical Center, Lorain, following a battle with cancer.
He was born December 15, 1949 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. He grew up in New York City and moved to Lorain in the mid-1970s.
Mr. Santiago served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
He worked at Gel Pak and Ford.
His family describes Angel was a very giving man, who enjoyed playing bingo. He made beautiful Christmas plates and other crafts.
Among the survivors are his partner, Michael Williamson of Lorain; sisters Alma Robinson of Bronx, N.Y., and Brenda Rojas of Tampa, Fla.; brother, Raymond Marrero of Texas; cousin, Rosa Ammond of Lorain; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Maria (nee Rodriguez) Santiago.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, where Rev. Mr. Juan Rocy Ortez, deacon, will preside and Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
